20 Years of Public Movement: As One × Also Thus!

Public Movement marks twenty years since its founding: in the winter of 2006, at a crossroads in the heart of Tel Aviv, with a first action lasting one minute, and at its core, an accident.

Over two decades, the group has studied, questioned, operated and gotten into trouble in public spaces in Israel and around the world. To mark the occasion, Public Movement invites the public to a celebration in which elements of its first official ceremony, Also Thus! (2007), burst into its most recent action, As One (2026).

Also Thus! was conceived as a state ceremony performed by nine Public Movement members dressed in white uniforms, alongside a black car equipped with a flashing blue light. The ceremony moves between control and abandon, order and violence.

As One emerged from research into the first World Workers' Olympiad, held in Frankfurt in 1925. Six Public Movement members perform a choreography of strength, vulnerability, discipline, and play, exploring how ideas of equality and solidarity might be embodied in a unified body.

Public Movement members from across the years return to the choreographic language that has been at the foundation of the group's work, reviving Also Thus! as it erupts within and against As One. The encounter between the two actions invites reflection on the transformations of the civic body, the spectacles of national violence, and the old and new wounds of public space. What has happened to the meaning of ceremony, to the ways in which the state performs itself? Is it possible to imagine another horizon for being together in society?

The event will conclude with collective circle dancing. All are welcome.
