Songbird is a powerful contemporary dance work by Israeli choreographer Yoram Karmi that explores movement as both necessity and destiny. It is a journey through memory, migration and identity, where the body becomes an archive of stories carried across generations.Inspired by his family's Sephardic heritage, Karmi returns to the ancient melodies of Ladino - the language and songs passed down by his parents and grandparents after their exile from Spain. These fragile echoes of the past encounter an immersive contemporary soundscape, creating a striking dialogue between tradition and an uncertain future.

Fresco Dance Company first took to the stage as an independent dance company founded by Yoram karmi. Since its establishment, the company has continued to grow and is now considered one of the leading contemporary dance companies in Israel. It operates from Fresco Dance and Culture Hub in Tel Aviv.

The company’s repertoire consists of works by Yoram Karmi, its Artistic Director and principal choreographer, as well as works by guest choreographers from Israel and abroad. The company’s performances reach a diverse range of audiences and students, fostering cultural dialogue and promoting cultural engagement throughout Israel.

In the last 4 years the company preformed in China, England, Italy and Hungry.  

in 2027 Fresco will make its U.S debut. 

Yoram Karmi creates works for dance companies and opera houses around the world. Together with the company’s team, he is also committed to cultural education and dance education in particular, working with communities in Israel’s geographic and social periphery.
