About the show

“Submission” was presented for the first time in the summer of 2018 at the Suzanne Dellal Centre, followed by presentations at the Théâtre de la Ville, Paris.

The starting point lies in the work “It's Always Here”, a men's duet from 2016, which in fact, “Submission” expanded the gender preoccupation by placing a women's duet as a continuation to a men's duet. The work evokes aspects of gender identity in movement and performative action; dealing with intensity, using the voice and silencing it, expressions of control and power. Structures of assimilation of a body in another body, the relations of support, leaning and dependence, partnership of fate - receive new meaning and validity. Submission is a demanding work to perform, and from the demands it holds optimism, in the ceaseless ambition for synchronization and compassion towards the other, the meaning of which resonates even more strongly in our time.

Adi Boutrous is a choreographer, dancer, sound and set designer.
